As I mentioned in the last blog post, I found two booths at Stitches Midwest particularly appealing. The second one belonged to Drew Emborsky, The Crochet Dude. I’m sure most of you are already familiar with Drew’s work. If not, you can check out his Website and blog for more information.
Meeting up with Drew is always such a pleasure. He’s warm, witty and a lot of fun. He was accompanied on this trip by his sister Dawn, who is a delight in her own right. Together, they made a great team. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them and, of course, I was also drawn in by the many crochet goodies Drew brought with him to the show. See the yarn flowers on the curtain behind Drew? He made those with his new Bloom Loom kit!
There were books and hooks and gadgets, oh my! I was particularly intrigued with his new crochet hooks which I hadn’t seen before. As an avid (or is that rabid?) hook collector, nothing would do but that I purchase a few and take them back to my hotel room to try them out.
Even though, as I stated previously, I am a dedicated Susan Bates in-line hook fan, I was very much impressed with the hooks Drew has developed. They fit my hand well, were silky smooth to the touch, had a comfortable padded grip, the hook was turned in just the right direction relevant to the grip and the shaft was the right length for me. It’s obvious he’s put a lot of thought into his products. Not only did I take home the initial few hooks, I went back the next day and purchased the rest of the set, including his afghan hooks, some books, yarn clippers, purse handles, bent-end yarn needles, etc. All in all, I made quite a haul!
Drew assures me that his products are in all of the Michael’s stores in the U.S. So, if you haven’t had a chance to check them out yet, I encourage you to do so soon. I love them, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If you prefer to shop online, you can find his products here.
